Social Policy on Gay Marriage by O.C. Pringle

A Social Policy refers to the guidelines, principles, legislation and activities that affect the living conditions conducive to human welfare. It is described by Harvard University as public policy and practice in the areas of health care, human services, criminal justice, inequality, education, and labor.

Thomas Jefferson first used the term “All men are created equal” in the Declaration of Independence. It is yet the theory of today that is used to justify the ideologies, sentiments, beliefs and convictions of all Americans.

To many this suggest that regardless of one’s practices or lifestyles, they are to be treated as an equal and society should except and accommodate them and their actions and never tell them they are wrong, unethical, immoral and having no rights.

Being liberated or emancipated to some people means to be free to live according to one’s own ideologies and benefit from relativism. Meaning everybody is right according to his or her own interpretation of rightness or righteousness.

The gay community has set quietly in the closet yearning the day of acceptance, liberation and equality. But they would only feel a sense of victory if this were giving in the realm of social policy, so law would protect them along with their rights.

President Barak Hussein Obama stated on March 15, 2007 that the does not think homosexuality is immoral. He also stated during the debate on July 23, 2007 that we have got to make sure that everybody is equal under the law. And the civil unions that I proposed would be equivalent in terms of making sure that all the rights that are conferred by the state are equal for same-sex couples as well as for heterosexual couples. Obama also supports expanding the protections afforded by hate crimes statutes to cover crimes committed against individuals because of sexual orientation or gender identity.

In our current society, there are many social conditions and norms that exist and are approved by society; such as, globalization, class-consciousness, divorce, marriage etc. However, this is a social condition that causes a problem and is morally and biblically wrong, it’s no longer simply a social condition or norm, but it’s now to be considered as a social issue.

There is a social issue that I wish to address in this communication that is morally wrong, unnatural and offensive to the premise on which this nation was built and to the Christian community, SAME SEX MARRIAGES.

This form of marriage is clearly a divisive issue in the United States, with passionate proponents on both sides. As of the November 2012 election, there are now nine states that have legalized same-sex marriages-Connecticut, Maine, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont, Washington, District of Columbia and two Indian Tribes ( Coquille and Suquamish). Since the 1970s, DOMA (the Defense of Marriage Act) has been trying to acquire benefits and rights that belong to a male and female marital union and now they have won a slight but yet unmerited victory.

There are several ethical concerns I wish to pose. Marriage, historically, morally and biblically has always been between a man and a woman. Now that same sex marriages are allowed, the definition of marriage is changed. This in return may vary well pave the way for other forms of unethical unions such as children’s rights to marry, humans to animals marriages, polygamy and the list goes on. These civil unions will cause the entire idea of gender to be obsolete. For example, will there always be male and female public restrooms, male and female clothing, male and female names for babies. Man has no right to define marriage. It’s the first institution established among man by God and should not be tampered with. Same sex marriages cannot contribute to the continuation of life, existence of man, and society. HIV rates are higher among homosexual men than among heterosexual men, so same sex marriages will encourage homosexual lifestyles, inevitably causing the rate of HIV cases to rise.

Same sex marriages do not and cannot enjoy important legal protections and financial benefits; such as, taxes, survivor benefits, family health care and social security benefits. This will definitely cause economic problems eventually for the participants in such marriages.

Lets examine the state of Maryland key votes concerning same sex marriages. House Bill 438 authorizes same-sex marriages beginning January 2013. It authorizes any 2 individuals to marry who are not otherwise prohibited from marrying in the state, regardless of gender.

Specifies that an official of a religious order or body be not required to solemnize or officiate any particular marriage (Sec. 2).

Prohibits a religious organization from being required to provide any of the following if it is related to the solemnization, celebration, or promotion of a marriage in violation of the organization’s religious beliefs (Sec. 3):

Again, the HIV rate is highest among gay men than hetaera sexual men. Maryland ranks 7 in the nation for HIV/AIDS cases. House Bill 438 will certainly cause an increase of HIV/AIDS cases; it’s bad enough without the bill. Because the gay community is considered as a minority group, this will simply lead to more social injustice such as prejudice, hate crimes, discrimination, and needs to protest. Those of same sex marriages will not be able to reap federal financial benefits that are afforded to traditional married couples. Ultimately this will cause economic deprivation among the gay community and the heterosexuals will be responsible to fit the bill by possible tax increases. Same sex marriages are not only abominable and immoral but also, they are detrimental to the well functioning and preservation of our society.

House Bill 438, the Civil Marriage Protection Act. This allows committed gay and lesbian couples to marry in the state. The measure, which is a cornerstone of your legislative agenda this year, now moves to the Senate, where it cleared the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee late January 2012.

As an advocate of traditional marriage, I find it necessary to inform you a number of voters and fans oppose same sex marriages. I do view this type of civil union as the problem because it violates, contradicts, or defiles the sanctity of traditional marriage. So, before January 2013 there are a few factors that should be taken under consideration.

  1. It’s biblically wrong, please read Genesis 19, Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, and Romans 1:26-27.
  2. It’s morally wrong
  3. It’s opening the door to dismiss the idea of genders. Soon there will not be male and female restroom, dorms, clothes, baby names etc.
  4. It opens the door to more immoral unions being excepted; such as, humans and animals, children marrying each other, adults to children, humans to object etc.
  5. Because federal economic benefits and protection is not available to same sex marriages, this will eventually cause an economic problem.
  6. This type of civil union encourages homosexuality. The HIV/AIDS rate is significantly higher among gay men than hetaera sexual males as is. This will cause the rate of HIV/AIDS carriers to rise.

For the preservation and sanctity of marriage as we know it and as God intended, we should consider the said facts. We must stand against such wickedness and make the United States a beacon of social morality. Twitter @bishoppringle
